Like chinos in general, its shape harks back to the lightweight uniform trousers of the 19th century, from which a civilian everyday trouser evolved via the US Army. It is made from cotton corduroy: additional weft threads are woven into the base fabric and then cut, creating the wales; at the knees and seat, the pile flattens
